Ashley thinks that she’s ‘too honest’ as ‘The Bachelorette.’ ‘I have a hard time faking it and you have to be able to do that sometimes!’
After Bachelor Brad Womack broke Ashley Hebert‘s heart, she decided to give it a go on her own series staring as ABC’s The Bachelorette. But dating 25 men is never easy, especially after getting played by bad boy Bentley Williams. Ashley made it through that obstacle and even reportedly found love with rumored winner J.P. Rosenbaum, but Ashley still has insecurities that she didn’t do the title of The Bachelorette justice!

“I don’t know that I have made a good Bachelorette,” Ashley confesses to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “In a way, I think I’m too honest. If I’m not into somebody, I have a hard time faking it and I think in this environment, you have to be able to do that sometimes.”

Ashley’s honesty got the best of her. “On the show you’ll see me trusting everybody,” she says. “That’s always been my default position.”

And after dealing with the heartbreak from Bentley, Ashley’s changed. “Now I feel like I’m jaded,” she admits. “I think I’ve learned a lot about people, but it’s kind of a sad thing.”

But Ashley believes that she remained true to herself. “Despite what people believe, I’m actually pretty secure in myself,” she explains. “There’s a lot of good things happening too. You don’t see much of that. You only see what sucks people in.”

For Ashley, the “good thing” might just be falling in love with J.P. “I knew where my heart was from very early on,” she reveals. “I wanted to give every guy a chance, but by the time of the hometown dates, I was probably 95 percent sure.”

Ashley also shares how she decided to give the hit series a shot. “Everyone said I’d be perfect [for The Bachelor],” she notes. “I’d been single for four years because I was so focused on school.”

“A friend called me and said, ‘They’re going to be casting in Philly on Tuesday and you’re going,’” remembers Ashley. “I figured, ‘What the heck? I don’t have anything going on that night.’”

Ashley adds: “I had a more playful mentality on The Bachelor because I was like, ‘If it doesn’t work out, fine; if it does work out, fine.”

But “being on The Bachelorette, the pressure is all on you to make everyone happy,” admits Ashley. “You go through so much that you really want something to be there at the end.”

Even though this season of The Bachelorette is winding down, it doesn’t seem like people are getting as excited about the finale as they have for past seasons. According to TV by the Numbers, ratings for the July 18 episode hit an all-season low — 15% less viewers than the previous week!
