Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity's" Jason Blum is producing the genre pic.
Ethan Hawke has signed on to star in Scott Derrickson’s untitled horror-thriller pic, from Insidious and Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum.
Blum’s Blumhouse/Possessed Pictures is producing the genre film with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones’ Automatik Entertainment, a joint venture of Alliance Films and IM Global. Charles Layton is executive producing.
Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) begins shooting the micro-budgeted horror-thriller on Sept. 19 from a script he co-wrote with C. Robert Cargill. The logline is being kept under tight wraps.
Most recently, Hawke wrapped production on a television adaptation of Moby Dick, starring opposite William Hurt in the role of first officer Starbuck. The two-part Encore telepic premieres on Aug. 1.
The actor’s other upcoming projects include Pawel Pawlikowski’s The Woman in the Fifth. Hawke stars opposite Kristin Scott Thomas as a college lecturer who flees to Paris after a scandal costs him his job.
Hawke also makes a cameo appearance in Len Wiseman’s remake of Totall Recall, starring opposite Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston.
Derrickson co-wrote and directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose, a sleeper hit that grossed more than $140 million worldwide. His other credits include the recent remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
He’s also set to direct Goliath for Relativity Media.
Blum’s Blumhouse Prods. recently signed a three-year first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Blum is among only a few Hollywood producers who have succeeded in making low-budget films that have also worked at the box office.
