Kim Kardashian sues Old Navy over lookalike in ads

The reality show starlet and model on Wednesday sued the clothing store and its parent company, The Gap Inc., in a Los Angeles federal court alleging their ads violated her publicity rights with ads that feature a woman who looks like her.
A video of a broadcast ad featuring a smiling, dark-haired woman who bears a resemblance to the real Kardashian has been viewed more than two million times on Old Navy's YouTube channel.
Kardashian's lawsuit claims consumers may be confused by the ads and the model's actual endorsements, which include her own clothing store and shoe line. A commercial, titled, "Super C-U-T-E," began airing in February and Old Navy is still using some of the promotions, the lawsuit states.
The case cites all the benchmarks of modern celebrity: her eight million followers on Twitter, more than five million fans on Facebook and ranking as one of the most searched-for celebrities on the Internet.
Kardashian "has invested substantial time, energy, finances and entrepreneurial effort in developing her considerable professional and commercial achievements and success, as well as in developing her popularity, fame, and prominence in the public eye," the lawsuit states.
Louise Callagy, a spokeswoman for San Francisco-based Gap said the company has not yet seen the case and had no comment.
Kardashian, 31, has rocketed to fame in recent years after gaining prominence as a friend of Paris Hilton and for having a sex tape. She appears along with her family on the E! Entertainment Television series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and routinely graces magazine covers.
Her lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages and wants a federal judge to prevent Old Navy from using a Kardashian lookalike model in its ads again.
The model in the ads, Melissa Molinaro, is not named in the lawsuit. She expressed exasperation that the resemblance was being pointed out again. "Were (sic) still talking about this," she posted on Twitter, noting the ad ran five months ago. "Some people have too much time on (their) hands."
Kim Kardashian releases new single
It appears that penning a book, starring on a TV show and launching a perfume isn’t quite enough for Kim Kardashian.
The 30-year-old can now add “singer” to her resume.
The reality star released her first single “Jam (Turn it Up)” on Wednesday.
“This is like a really big deal,” she told Ryan Seacrest on his KISS FM radio show.
The buxom brunette may know how to strike a pose for the camera or hawk products, but singing is something new for her.
“I’m human, I’ve never, you know, sang before,” she told the radio show about her new collaboration with songwriter and producer The-Dream.
The lyrics which include lines like, “I’m going out tonight … Headed straight to the front of the line” seem to be based on Kardashian’s own life which is fully depicted on her E! TV shows.

The media savvy lady is also working on a music video to accompany her new dance tune. On Tuesday pics surfaced of Kardashian in Bo Derek-inspired braids working on the video under the direction of Hype Williams.
Williams is sure to make the video sexy since he was behind the lens for Kardashian’s 2007 Playboy shoot.
Rumors are also circulating that rapper Kanye West will make a cameo.

Barulah pada tahun 1820, kalkulator mekanik mulai populer.
Charles Xavier Thomas de Colmar menemukan mesin yang dapat melakukan empat fungsi aritmatik dasar. Kalkulator mekanik Colmar, arithometer, mempresentasikan pendekatan yang lebih praktis dalam kalkulasi karena alat tersebut dapat melakukan penjumlahan, pengurangan, perkalian, dan pembagian.
Dengan kemampuannya, arithometer banyak dipergunakan hingga masa Perang Dunia I. Bersama-sama dengan Pascal dan Leibniz, Colmar membantu membangun era komputasi mekanikal.
Awal mula komputer yang sebenarnya dibentuk oleh seorang profesor matematika Inggris, Charles Babbage (1791-1871). Tahun 1812, Babbage memperhatikan kesesuaian alam antara mesin mekanik dan matematika yaitu mesin mekanik sangat baik dalam mengerjakan tugas yang sama berulangkali tanpa kesalahan; sedang matematika membutuhkan repetisi sederhana dari suatu langkah-langkah tertenu.
Masalah tersebut kemudain berkembang hingga menempatkan mesin mekanik sebagai alat untuk menjawab kebutuhan mekanik.
Usaha Babbage yang pertama untuk menjawab masalah ini muncul pada tahun 1822 ketika ia mengusulkan suatu mesin untuk melakukanperhitungan persamaan differensial.
Mesin tersebut dinamakan Mesin Differensial.
Dengan menggunakan tenaga uap, mesin tersebut dapat menyimpan program dan dapat melakukan kalkulasi serta mencetak hasilnya secara otomatis.
Setelah bekerja dengan Mesin Differensial selama sepuluh tahun, Babbage tiba-tiba terinspirasi untuk memulai membuat komputer general-purpose yang pertama, yang disebut Analytical Engine. Asisten Babbage, Augusta Ada King (1815-1842) memiliki peran penting dalam pembuatan mesin ini. Ia membantu merevisi rencana, mencari pendanaan dari pemerintah Inggris, dan mengkomunikasikan spesifikasi Analytical Engine kepada publik. Pada 1889, Herman Hollerith (1860-1929) juga menerapkan prinsip kartu perforasi untuk melakukan penghitungan.
Tugas pertamanya adalah menemukan cara yang lebih cepat untuk melakukan perhitungan bagi Biro Sensus Amerika Serikat.
Sensus sebelumnya yang dilakukan di tahun 1880 membutuhkan waktu tujuh tahun untuk menyelesaikan perhitungan.

Pada masa berikutnya, beberapa insinyur membuat penemuan baru lainnya.
Vannevar Bush (18901974) membuat sebuah kalkulator untuk menyelesaikan persamaan differensial di tahun 1931.
Mesin tersebut dapat menyelesaikan persamaan differensial kompleks yang selama ini dianggap rumit oleh kalangan akademisi.
Mesin tersebut sangat besar dan berat karena ratusan gerigi dan poros yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan perhitungan.
Pada tahun 1903, John V. Atanasoff dan Clifford Berry mencoba membuat komputer elektrik yang menerapkan aljabar Boolean pada sirkuit elektrik.
Pendekatan ini didasarkan pada hasil kerja George Boole (1815-1864) berupa sistem biner aljabar, yang menyatakan bahwa setiap persamaan matematik dapat dinyatakan sebagai benar atau salah.

Yet another micro-boost power supply! (1.5V--> x? V)

The thing is so dang simple that I just had to try it. So I did. I wound a little transformer on a small (1/2" or so) ferrite bead with some of my salvaged magnet wire. Dang if I didn't get a good solid 6 volts at about 25mA out of it!
I think this is actually a good candidate to run little 5-volt powered projects from a single AA cell. Of course, one would want to add a regulator (maybe just a 5V zener to keep it simple), since the voltage will go waaaaaaay up under a smaller load (I used a 220Ω resistor as a dummy load; haven't yet measured the no-load voltage, but I'm sure it's much higher).
Looking at this circuit, it's something of a mystery how it operates. My problem is with finding the return path to the positive side of the supply: it can't be through that little 470pF cap, can it? or through that rather large resistor?
I'm going to try to model this with LTspice, but simulating that transformer is going to be tricky. Wonder what frequency this runs at?

The card, however, is loaded with fees that makes it exceedingly expensive. Groups such as the Consumers Union have condemned its promotion to teens.
